Amanda Brugel
(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. The West Island has a lot of communities. People who have never known about it may mistake it for a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is commonly referred to as her birthplace. But she only stayed there for a short period of time. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but because of a huge growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. As soon as I outgrew my male counterparts, I stopped. Former dancers often turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel it was the result of a recommendation from her teacher in drama. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to go after a role in the school's annual production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been in over 60 productions both big and small. Most notable was the time she was cast as Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor for Season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
